Summer

Summer in England is heaven on earth...except if you are a foreigner with few friends... or a foreigner with children that are too young to allow for free time. But even a foreigner with very little social life can't fail to appreciate 71 degrees of golden sunshine, soft breezes, and a chorus of song birds. There are lots of birds here and they are very vocal. In our back yard, our garden as they are called, we have a swing surrounded by blackberry bushes filled with birds. Its the perfect place to enjoy the long days while the children play. It gets dark at 10 and will stay light even later as the summer progresses.
Summer is also perfect in that we get time and money saved for travel. This summer we went to Israel for 6 days with my brother and his wife, who flew in from Atlanta. Israel was celebrating 60 years as a country and there was much celebrating in the old city and in the streets of Jerusalem. It was an inspiring time to be there and I left with a sense of Gods presence embodied in a culture. At least in Jerusalem. In the more modern cities of Israel it felt like the typical western consumerism and mindset. But everywhere we went I was amazed at how beautiful Israel is.
Here are some pictures from our trip...

We had a "small" birthday party for Anna today. She turned two today and we had some of her and Aliyahs (and ours) friends over. So we had 5 kids and 3 babies in our little british home. It was very exciting after all the toddlers' sugar rushes kicked in. For the next hour after having cake and icecream they ran around in circles through all the rooms and chased each other and screamed and got yelled at by the parents. It was fun! It was also a lot of work, now I see why people just order pizza instead of making it, but Tracy from church came early and cut up all the toppings for me. Anna seemed a bit overwhelmed by all the kids and attention. She didn't seem to have much fun until it was time to open presents. Then she seemed to understand the value of having a birthday party. Aliyah also had a great time and can't wait for her birthday which is coming up in May. We can't wait either, we know it'll be a blast! Judah slept the entire time, even while the kids ran around and screamed. We had a good time and theres a video with "Anna" blowing out her candles.

Merry Christmas to all of our friends and family. I hope you enjoy the video of Judah. I really wish the quality was better. I cut four seperate videos from our digital camera together in imovie, but lost a lot of the quality in the process. But it still looks great just not on the web. So, it'll be good to look back on in 5 years.
We had a very relaxing Christmas day filled with presents, food, fun, more food, more presents, more fun, good food, and a few more presents after dinner. This was the most fun we've ever had at Christmas with all the enthusiasim our 3 year old infused into it. It was also great that the girls didn't want to rush through opening everything and were happy to open a gift and actually play with it for awhile before moving on to the next thing. We were surprised and guessed that this was a result of the last 5 days leading up to christmas where we would let them open one gift each night, but only one. That was really hard for us to excercise that much self control when you see their little faces light up and then you have to say you have to wait for the rest of the presents. But it taught them it's not just about tearing through all the wrapping paper. And that's especially nice for us parents who spend so much time getting it all wrapped up.

Christmas... From the Realm of Glory

Looking through old photos on our computer I came across this one of Aliyah and Anna the day after christmas 06. I couldn't believe my eyes! Anna hardly had any hair, she was such a baby; and Aliyah was so little and toddler-ish.

Now they're all grown up in comparison and in just one year. Its amazing to me how different my memory of last year is compared with the pictures. In my mind Aliyah and Anna were the same last year as this, but in fact they've grown so fast. It's kind of sad when I realize how quickly they are growing up.
Here's Anna and me at the christmas party on base a few days ago:

Here's a picture I took of Aliyah tonight surrounded by all the presents Cris brought home for the kids today. Aliyah was sitting on the box of presents from Grandma and Grandpa and surrounded by the gifts from the Airforce. She was grimacing because she didn't want to pose for a picture, wanting to look at the presents instead.

Finally, here's Cris with the girls opening up the box of presents from grandma and grandpa Sherfinski

Our growing boy

Many thanks to Jessica Keeton for this outfit and many others like it. And to everyone elso who has sent clothes for him recently: Grandpa and Grandma Sherfinski, Grandma Lidiya, and Courtney Lemon) Thats not why I decided to post today but thanks anyway. At 2 and a half months Judah is still a cuddle bug or cuddle hog you could say. My other two girls seemed to like to be left alone more often than not that I assumed that the baby cuddle stage only lasted a few weeks. But I was wrong. And the girls are doing great and happy to not have to leave their brother alone. He gets more than his share of kisses.
